Nigerian student tops world in Cambridge English exam
A Nigerian student has distinguished herself on the global stage by emerging as the “Top in World” candidate in the November 2024 Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language (Speaking Endorsement).
Kenechukwu Oluwanifemi Uba, a pupil of Caleb British International School in Magodo, Lagos, received the prestigious Outstanding Cambridge Learners Award for her exceptional performance, recognised by Cambridge University Press & Assessment.
The award was formally presented during a ceremony hosted by the British Council and Cambridge University Press & Assessment at the Civic Centre, Lagos.
Uba’s certificate was signed by Rod Smith, Group Managing Director of International Education at Cambridge, marking her achievement as a benchmark for excellence in English language proficiency.
Commenting on the accomplishment, Dr. Oladega Adebogun, Proprietor and CEO of Caleb Group of Schools and University, emphasised that the recognition reflects the institution’s commitment to cultivating integrity, perseverance, and innovation in its students.
“We are overjoyed by Kenechukwu’s outstanding performance. Her success embodies our core values of integrity, perseverance, and innovation. We invest heavily in cutting-edge teaching methods—from flipped classrooms to AI-driven language labs—so that every student can discover their potential and lead with confidence,” Adebogun said.
Uba attributed her success to the support of her teachers, peers, and family, as well as the school’s advanced learning facilities.
“From the moment I joined Caleb, I felt inspired by teachers who challenged me to think deeply and by peers who encouraged me to persevere. Preparing for the speaking endorsement in our state-of-the-art lab sharpened my confidence. This recognition belongs to everyone—my mentors, my classmates, and my family,” she said.
The school described the award as a testament to its mission of developing globally competitive students through a combination of advanced learning technologies and strong character development programmes.
Kenechukwu’s achievement adds to Nigeria’s growing record of excellence in international academic competitions, stressing the country’s potential to nurture students capable of competing at the highest global standards.
